Summer 2024
Visual Identity Redesign + Mobile App
Bunbury is a three-day music festival that takes place in Cincinnati at Sawyer Point Park & Yeatman's Cove on the banks of the Ohio River. Bunbury means “to have a made up excuse to get out of doing something boring”.
The escapism definition exists in the designs alluding to how live music acts as an escape.
The ChallengeBunbury's current visual identity is outdated. The typography is inconsistent combining display, mono, and script all in one wordmark. The logo is also illegible from distances and blends in with any other logo.
The ProcessWhen beginning designing a new primary logo, physical iterations were utilized to make quick changes and jot ideas. From there, refining down to distinct variants and determining which direction aligns with the definition of “bunbury”.
The ResultThe final style guide features a readable typeface and bright colors accomplishing design goals: catch attention and be readable in all environments.
The Challenge 2.0Bunbury’s current app is ineffective in guiding Bunbury attendees throughout their weekend. It currently serves as an information hub, disregarding essential information and additional features to enhance the mobile experience.
The Process 2.0
When beginning the user experience, necessary screens were identified and the transitions outlined. From there, screens from successful music festivals around the world were identified which helped guide low-fi and mid-fi iteartions. Finally, the new style guide was applied to the mobile experience.
The Result 2.0The mobile application recieved a full makeover: adding new screens with unique features ensuring Bunbury attendees feel confident in their weekend. New features like artist favorites, concert reminders, and a filterable schedule achieves this confidence.
